Dimitris Keramitsis to Empoli!

The 16-year-old Thessaloniki defender Dimitris Keramitsis took the first step towards a career at the highest level of professional football.

Born in July 2004, the 192 cm tall central defender Dimitris Keramitsis sees his football future blossoming. Within the last month, Empoli moved to acquire him and convinced him to move to Italy.

The story of the young Keramitsis’ career starts from the academies of Aris, PAOK and Apollon Pontus, until the age of 14, when he started playing at the male level. He wore the jerseys of AMS Panorama (A EPA Macedonia), Thermaikos Thermi (3rd National League) and Ae Krini (A EPA Macedonia).

In the meantime, the talented centre-back took part in a camp that took place in Thessaloniki, in the presence of various scouts from Italy. Andrea Domenicini, son of Marco Domenicini, who is Luciano Spalletti’s assistant, was also present. Andrea held back Keramitsis’ name and later recommended him to Fiorentina, however Dimitri’s age and the formalities of the transfer put the brakes on his move to the neighbouring country.

All this until Empoli started the procedures to make Keramitsis theirs. The Italian club contacted the player’s side last month and the transfer went ahead as planned, with the 16-year-old defender moving to Italy. At the moment, Keramitsis is training with the U19 team, awaiting the issue of his card to participate in the U17’s playing commitments.

It is worth noting that, before Empoli, Keramitsis was close to a transfer to Dutch Willem and Scottish Rangers, but corona virus spoiled the plans of the parties involved.
